Springing into Fitness Fashions with the Ladies of The Beauty Boost

Spring is all around my favorite fashion season. I love the bright, new colors and cuter styles in the spring. After a long and dark winter, give me all of those mood lifting hues. Spring is also a time where we wear less, or at least layer more for those changing spring temps. And the new spring fitness fashions can be just as exciting as the everyday styles we wear, especially since these are the clothes that we are now spending most of our life wearing. Activewear is taking us through our days because they’re comfortable, cute and can hold up to whatever the day brings. Try as I might to shower after a workout, most days are just spent in the leggings I wore to the gym. And with styles this good, I am not at all upset about it.

I was recently asked to speak at the upcoming Beauty Boost Fitness Sampler in Philly. But instead of speaking, I wanted to do one better. I wanted to put together a fashion show featuring my favorite kind of fashion — activewear. To do this, I needed some models and lucky for me, a few brave women who are ambassadors for The Beauty Boost, a newish wellness networking organization in Philadelphia, stepped up to the plate. The women all told me a little about their lives and what type of exercise they like to do and from there, I picked my favorite spring looks for them to show off on April 27. And man, did these girls rock the runway! I had no clue they had it in them, but these women made the show! You can check it out here.

THE it color of the season is this light yellow color resembling butter or sunlight or light lemon. It’s uplifting and refreshing and something I haven’t seen that much of until now. Athleta’s version is called “Glow”.

It’s soft enough to be a new neutral. And my favorite pair of leggings from Athleta, the Elation, come in this hue (although there may not be a ton of sizes left so check out these from other brands in similar colors). There are tons of pieces from Athleta in Glow (most are on sale, too!) to pair the leggings with for a monochromatic look.

Nichole said she was a little unsure when I first showed her the color she would be wearing in the show, but she was pleasantly surprised when she put it on and realized just how fabulous it looked on her. She ordered her look immediately following the show. You know I love to hear that!

I also put Nichole in the quintessential spring outwear piece — the trench coat. This one from Athleta is stretchy, flattering and wrinkle free (aka, totally packable), and it’s a real statement. Crazy that such a stand out piece is from an activewear brand, right? But the activewear brands continue to redefine activewear and athleisure by using their high quality performance fabrics to make stylish pieces that complete any fashionista’s wardrobe. Case in point is this fabulous trench!

I was so excited to have Jessica wear Beyond Yoga. It’s an activewear brand that you may not be as familiar with as Lululemon or Alo, but I’d argue that the quality of Beyond Yoga is even better. This has been the brand I have reached for the most this year. Whenever my Beyond Yoga set is washed and in my drawer, I am wearing it. I feel my best in this brand. It’s flattering and comfortable and holds up for every kind of workout I have on the calendar.

The Space Dye Midi Legging is the most popular legging style from Beyond Yoga. I order the full length legging for myself, but the Midi is 7/8 and works best for most women. The style that I put Jessica in for the show has a crossover waistband that is trimmed in white. And I reassured her that this style is high waisted and even more flattering than a standard waistband because of the snatching effect of the lines. As soon as she put it on, she understood why I was raving about this brand so much. In fact, she’s another one who wanted to immediately order her fashion show look.

I paired the leggings with the matching sports bra and the softest tee ever for another monochromatic moment.

When I think of spring, I think of the rebirth of racquet sports and Varley immediately comes to mind. Varley is a brand that I like to call “elevated athlesiure.” Their pieces are something special.

This dress is best worn under the sun on the court and followed by a Paloma in hand… oh, and wouldn’t ya know it, this dress is called the Varley Paloma Court Dress!

When it comes to having fun with colors, I am always looking to this next activewear brand first. That’s why Free People Movement shines bright in the spring. I mean, tell me this red isn’t absolutely gorgeous, especially on Miranda, who specifically told me she loves the bright colors! The Go To set is best for a lower impact workout like Pilates because the fabric is soft and not very compressive. And given that Miranda is a Pilates instructor at BodyRok in South Jersey, this set is perfect for her.

I’m all about studio to the street looks. So I paired Miranda’s fitness look with my favorite pant, Champ is Here. This pant comes in so many fun colors. I own it in a gorgeous Kelly Green. The My Time Tee is a best seller with its laid back, lose fit and open back to show a little of that adorable sports bra.

But my favorite part of this whole look might just be the bag charms that I added to Free People’s signature quilted bag. I’ve been very into the accessory trend of adorning your bags in “jewelry”, aka charms. And I love that Free People has brought this fun trend to gym bags.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know how much I love Vuori. This is a brand that I am always wearing for both fitness and normal life (as I write this, I am dressed head to toe in an everyday look from Vuori). So for the show, I wanted to feature both sides of Vuori.

First, I put Jaime, who is a busy fitness instructor and coaches multiple youth and school sports teams, in an outfit that could take her trough both parts of her life. The Clementine Short is a favorite of mine, especially as the temperatures rise because these shorts are so lightweight and easy to wear.

The Dynamic Tank is a new style tank that has adjustable straps and a supportive, built-in bra. Jaime teaches group boxing classes (which I plan to take asap) and this look is perfect for that part of her life.

I gave Jaime the Endless Hike Jacket to throw over her activewear when she is out on the field coaching. And the All Around Tote can hold all of the stuff she needs as she goes through the day.

I wanted to put stylish Jen in something that she can effortlessly wear while she is on the go with her kids and also running her women’s clothing boutique.

The Halo Racerback Tank Dress is just that. It provides easy movement and ultimate comfort with the stretchy performance knit. I love a good racerback, especially one where you don’t need to worry about your bra. And this dress has a built-in bra. I called this dress effortless for a reason.

And because I love Vuori so much- I decided to wear the Wide Leg Villa Pant and the new cropped Villa Tank to emcee the show. The silky fabric is wrinkle free and the pants have the most comfortable yet flattering wide, elastic waistband. The Villa also comes in another style pant and shorts.

Pair my look with a low profile sneaker or a flat sandal and throw on a denim jacket or a lightweight cardigan. Trust me on this— you will absolutely live in the Villa collection, spring through the fall.

I had to include Greatly & Co in the show to share the fact that this activewear brand offers a variety of customizable fit options. Yes, you read that right— you can customize your activewear. And tailored activewear is actually affordable with Greatly & Co.

For the leggings, choose the length, the waistband height, the level of taper in the waistband, and the fit around the knees. For the tops, pick from a variety of lengths. The whole concept of Greatly & Co. is so genius. And the clothes are made right here in the US. But the best part is that the price point is in line with, or even less than, the other high end active brands. Customizable activewear at an affordable price? Look how far this industry has come in the past 10 years!

Thank you to the Beauty Boost for letting me share my favorite spring fitness fashions on the stage this year. And a huge thank you to the women who made these clothes come to life!
